No Penance is a digital print series depicting portraits of fictional personas rendered in a compound mix of lard, dough and marbled fat each afflicted with oozing sore-like berries, and bound with rope, wire and twine. The project is a visualization of misery underscored with a grave ambiguity – are these portraits of contrition or denial, of judgement or fear of being judged? The images in this series have provided the visual vocabulary for a companion short film, “Our Hands Were Tied” completed in 2026.
